import release of aka 'Delirio Di Sangue' the obscure 1987 brutal Italian horror film directed by Sergio 'In the Folds of the Flesh' Bergonzelli.
After his
beloved wife Christine dies, a deranged, reclusive and sadistic painter (Charles Saint Simone) who believes
himself to be the reincarnation of Vincent Van Gogh goes over the
edge into madness. Soon after
her death he discovers his butler Hermann (played nicely sickening by Gordon
Mitchell) trying to rape her corpse, which fills him with fury, but he
needs the butler as an assistant because he would be helpless without
him. After his
wife is buried, the painter doesn't feel any inspiration anymore and is
unable to get a painting done.He decides to get his wife back, and with the help of his necrophiliac and cannibalistic butler Hermann they steal her rotting, maggot-covered corpse from the cemetery and bring it
back to his remote castle to use for "inspiration". The sadistic pair commit horrendous acts in their castle of evil: they steal decaying corpses from tombs, murder, drain the blood, and hack up the bodies of their victims in order to help the 'maestro' continue to create his haunting paintings and portraits by using the grisly acts and his "Blood Delirium" to inspire his artistic creativity.
Charles soon meets
a beautiful musician named Sybille who looks exactly like his late wife and brings
her back to his castle. However, she eventually discovers their gory secret:
the butler murders young women, disposes of their bodies and uses their
blood - "the color of life" for the artist's paintings.
This highly recommended, dark and demented film involving necrophilia and misogyny
is one of the best horror/gore films to come out of Italy.
